Botanical Camping Trip to Hastings Reserve/Big Sur Wilderness - April 16-19 2020
Thurs April 16th thru Sun April 19th 2020
Join Ethnobotanist Autumn Summers and Gathering Thyme as we explore the abundant flora of the Santa Lucia Range that makes up the Big Sur wilderness of central, coastal California. We will journey through grasslands, chaparral, oak woodlands, and canyon bottoms to learn the basics of botanical identification and the edible and medicinal properties of the abundance of plant life we will encounter during the season of wildflower bloom.
We will take leisurely day hikes from our base camp to discover some of California's most beautiful plants and best herbal medicines. Afternoon programs will also include connecting with plants through medition and creating flower essences, making pine needle baskets and more. There will be ample free time where participants are encouraged to relax, reconnect to nature and soak in the gorgeous wild.
Logistics: Students have the option of staying in group housing or camping on the land. Campers will need to supply their own camping gear and all participants will need to bring their own bedding. We will have a group kitchen and participants will be paired up to create one community meal. We will have a group meeting prior to the trip to figure out meal planning, carpooling, and other logistics.
